Updates from the Recent Fieldwork Trip to Italy

Graduate student Rhemi Toth is studying the European roe deer in the Eastern Italian Alps to understand how different aspects of an animal's internal state, such as energy, thermal stress, memory, and fear, influence their movement decisions. During the spring semester of 2025, Rhemi traveled to Italy to conduct fieldwork for her project. Check out the photos below to see her collecting thermal images of roe deer to measure their thermal stress, working with colleagues to fit a GPS collar on a captured deer to track its movements, and setting up a camera trap network to quantify predation risk from wolves.
